Fort Smith is about to experience a rapid economical boost as Mitsubishi Power Systems announced they are going to open a new plant in Fort Smith. The announcement was made after a year and a half of speculation and it’s quite a news for the region, mainly because the factory will invest $ 100.000.000 into Fort Smith, providing about 400 jobs. The plant is going to be based in Chaffee Crossing and take up 90 acres; they will deal mostly with producing manufacture wind turbines. Right now the company has more than 4500 turbines worldwide and 3000 in the US.
Fort Smith was chosen for a number of reasons including mostly the ability to transport large pieces of the equipment down the interstate. Mitsubishi was also looking for a location that can offer some skilled workforce. Fort Smith proved a right choice owing to the University of Arkansas, which cooperates with the economic development team to bring Mitsubishi to Fort Smith.
